Terra sigillata pieces

The exteriors of these handmade pieces have been fired with terra sigillata. Terra sigillata means sealed earth in Latin. It refers to a refined clay slip that creates a beautiful, polished surface on pottery. Terra Sig was used by ancient Roman potters to create durable and aesthetically pleasing finishes on their pots. As an homage to the artisans of antiquity, I have treated these pieces with my own recipes of refined clay and colorants.
